hearing tests
A hearing test enables us to establish the degree of hearing impairment and to assess the impact that the hearing loss is having on a person’s daily life.
This will then guide us towards suitable solutions to improving hearing and thus improving quality of life.
What does a hearing consultation entail?
The first step is the taking of a case history which enables the specialist to obtain an understanding of your medical history and create possible links between any incidents which may have resulted in possible damage of the auditory system.
The specialist will then conduct an Otoscopic examination which involves looking inside your ear with a magnifying light in order to assess the condition of your ear canal and tympanic membrane (eardrum). If the ear canal is blocked with wax, the practitioner may refer you to a doctor or clinic sister to have the wax removed before continuing with the hearing test.
A series of tests will then be conducted inside a sound proof booth to establish your hearing levels and to determine the location of any possible damage to the auditory system. All test results will be clearly explained to you afterwards.
Should the test results reveal normal hearing you simply have peace of mind that all is well, however, if a hearing loss is identified we will work with you to explore your options with regards to treatment and rehabilitation. Some of these options may include referral for medical intervention or the fitment of suitable hearing instruments which would improve your hearing and consequently your quality of life.
When selecting and fitting a hearing instrument multiple factors are taken into consideration to find the best possible solution with the maximum likelihood of a positive outcome.
If you would like to try a hearing instrument we will offer you a free trial period with our demo instruments.
